Communication and Interactions surrounding AVs

Much progress has been made in the automated vehicle (AV) technologies in the past few years. However, there are still big technological challenges to be conquered. One of the critical challenges in developing AV technologies is that the AVs have to share the existing infrastructure with other non-motorized road users such as bicyclists and pedestrians. Our research interests are how human drivers interact and communicate with vulnerable road users including bicyclists and pedestrians, and examine how varying environmental and vehicle factors may influence such interactions.
